Vitaly Denisovitch Kolmogorov was an Admiral in the International Fleet, a soldier in the Third Formic War and later the governor of Shakespeare.[1] He was first introduced in Ender in Exile.
History[]
Third Formic War[]
Vitaly joined the International Fleet and eventually rose to the rank of Admiral. He left Earth to fight the Formics on their colony worlds. After the defeat of the Formics, he and his fellow soldiers settled on the planet they fought on, and he was named governor.[1]
Ender in Exile[]
Around 1 AX, Vitaly emailed back and forth with Ender Wiggin, the hero of the Third Formic War, who would be traveling to the planet to become its governor. Ender proposed naming the colony Prospero, but due to the rapid death on the planet from airborne worms at the moment it was rejected. Ender expressed his affection for a name from The Tempest, so Vitaly read it and liked the idea. Vitaly also warned Ender that the captain of his ship, Quincy Morgan, was writing to Vitaly behind Ender's back, and would be a threat to him. Ender proposed the name Shakespeare, and after Vitaly asked some colonists it stuck.[1]
In 36 AX, Vitaly was on his deathbed. He spoke with the Xenobiologist Sel Menach and told him to send an encrypted message for him to Ender. The message wished Ender well and thanked him for his victory in the war. Sel and Vitaly assumed that Sel would be elected the next governor, although he did not wish for it. Vitaly expressed concerns that the captain of the incoming colony ship, Quincy Morgan, would attempt to become governor when he arrived. Shortly afterward, Vitaly passed away.[1]
