The Box was type of ship used by Jane for instantaneous transportation. The most significant Box was the one sent to orbit the Descoladora and observe it.[1]

Boxes were metallic, simplistic ships that had very little in terms of details or amenities.[1]

Due to the threat of the Second Xenocide and the discovery of faster-than-light travel, the Lusitanians and Hive Queen of Shakespeare built dozens of boxes to transport Humans, Pequeninos, and Formics to new colony worlds to ensure their survival. One box was sent with a research crew to Descoladora to study the planet. Once the inhabitants of the planet noticed the ship, they sent a transmission of what looked like the Descolada virus to them. Soon after they also sent a ship into orbit to intercept them, but the Box jumped away.[1]
The Box remained in orbit for several more months after the encounter with the natives, collecting data and making a map of the planet's surface.[2]
