The Lusitanian Colonies were a set of several planets that were colonized by Lusitanian Humans, Formics, and Pequeninos in 3180 AX due to fears of the Second Xenocide.[1] Several months later, some were also colonized by the Keas, Ravens, and Yachachiyruna of Nest. There were over 8 planets included in the colonies.[2]
Description[]
Little is known about the makeup of the colonies. They were split evenly among the three primary species, being 1/3 human, 1/3 Formic, and 1/3 Pequenino. Three of the worlds were either in a pangea continental formation, or the continents were so close together that Keas could easily fly from all of them to any other. Two of the planets had at least one continental landmass that was too far from any other for Keas to make the flight. Three of the worlds had hawks and falcons present.[1]
On one of the planets, a continent that was given to the Keas was the size of Africa on Earth, had snow-covered mountains, and was near the equator.[1]
On the planet with the Yachachiyruna, they lived on two different continents, and used boats to pass between them. One of the continents was dominated by the fast-growing human colony and the Formics and Pequeninos who dwelt alongside them. Another continent was given to Ravens, whom the Yachichiyruna sometimes visited. The third continent was where the Yachachiyruna mined for metals and coal, and made their factories on the leeward coast, where the prevailing winds would carry away the smoke of manufacture.[1]

In 3180 AX as the Lusitania Fleet approached, fears were high that the Formics and Pequeninos would be exterminated from the universe, along with the humans of Lusitania. When Jane developed instantaneous travel, it became possible to scout for habitable worlds and colonize them in very little time. The Formics built very cheap, simple ships called Boxes that could carry many humans, Pequeninos, and Formics to the new worlds, and Jane Detoured them to the colonies. However, the threat of a Second Xenocide was averted by the efforts of Jane, Peter Wiggin II, and Si Wang-mu.[1]
The Last Shadow[]
Several months later, The Folk of Nest turned against the sentient Ravens, Keas, and Yachachiyruna that lived on the planet alongside them. The Raven Dog spoke with the Hive Queen of Shakespeare and arranged for them to be sent to 5 of the Lusitanian Colonies, but the Keas were to be kept seperate from the humans. The Lusitanians brought Boxes to the surface to take as many Keas, Ravens, and Yachachi that wanted to come. They were all brought to Lusitania at first, where Jane told them to divide themselves into their breeding populations, then instructed the Keas to form a group who wanted to be alone and a group that wished to be with the Ravens, as they could not be trusted with humans. One by one the patches of birds disappeared as Jane sent them to the colonies.[2]
Eventually, the Yachachiyruna were also sent to a colony, where they lived on two different continents. Ruqyaq expressed that Nest was merely a training ground, where they learned our science and engineering and languages, but on the colony they could become one nation and later many nations, with languages developing freely.[2]
