Anderson,[1] or Gwen Anderson in Ender's Game (Film),[2] was a Major in the International Fleet and a teacher at Battle School.[1] He was first introduced in Ender's Game.
History[]
Ender's Game[]
Major Anderson was the officer in charge of the Game in the Battle Room. Anderson and Colonel Hyrum Graff often disagreed about the techniques that should be used to produce the most capable leaders able to destroy the Formics, and Anderson disagreed with some of the changes that were being forced upon the game for Ender Wiggin's sake. Anderson watched each battle and presided over the victory ceremony at the end, handing the winning commander the Hook used to unthaw the various soldiers on both teams. Many students felt the challenge was actually against the teachers, not the other teams, but still loved the game.[1]
Ender Wiggin also began to realize that other students were not his true opponent, and after what turned out to be his last battle, said “I’ve beaten you again, sir,” to which Anderson replied, “Nonsense, Ender… your battle was with Griffin and Tiger.” Anderson is the officer who handed Ender his graduation orders to Command School, and was promoted to Colonel and put in charge of the Battle School, since Colonel Graff departed with Ender. Ender saw Colonel Anderson one more time, before the “final exam” on Eros. After the Xenocide of the Formics, Colonel Anderson became an American Football commissioner.[1]
Personality[]
Trivia[]
- Anderson was depicted as a woman in the 2013 film adaptation of Ender's Game, instead of male as in the novel. The female Anderson was portrayed by Viola Davis.[2]
